Dylan Rothbein Liberty Coalition is now hosting classes via Zoom in various subject areas mostly pertaining to music, media and Judiac studies. Dylan Rothbein is a jack of all trades, musician and filmmaker, disability studies scholar, which equips her to accommodate disabled students, including having a background in special education. Dylan has a BA in U.S history, certificates in film and audio production and studied Torah for 5 months in Israel. Dylan is currently studying for her MBA with a concentration in music business from Southern New Hampshire University.
Music Guitar - In the guitar class hosted by Dylan Rothbein students will learn how to express themselves through music by focusing on technical aspects, historical aspects, as well as the skills for integrating into the community and building social connection. $100 an hour.
Base- In Dylan Rothbein’s Base class students will unlock the power of the bass in a group or band situation, learn the historical aspects and theory and skills that foster musical development. $100 an hour.
Music Theory- In Dylan Rothbein’s music theory class we will teach the language of music through the theory of music so students can communicate like a musician. The student will explore many music styles like Jazz, classical, Rock and Roll and we will look as music theory from different perspectives and instruments. $100 an hour.
Songwriting- We will learn song structure, arranging, melody and harmony as well as music theory concepts that foster songwriting from key signature to time signature. We will investigate styles from classical to Jazz, to American Roots Music and Rock and Roll. This course will be mostly focused on guitar and piano. $100 an hour.
Film Scoring- Film scoring is an advanced composition. In film scoring we will be focusing on arranging and advanced music theory. Prior knowledge of instruments is required. We will discuss advanced midi production and advanced music theory. We will explore film genres as well. $150 an hour.
Media
iMovie- In Dylan Rothbein’s iMovie class you will learn basics of video editing that can be applied to any video editing software. Video is an essential skill for the modern media landscape so this class will prepare students for post modern digital media from a post production point of view. If students don’t have access to iMovie Dylan will find other non linear video editors that are free or low cost to students. $100 an hour.
Music Production- In Dylan Rothbein’s music production class students will learn all aspects from microphones and mic placement. We will learn about instrumentation from a recording point of view. We will also talk about digital audio production and post production considerations. $150 an hour.
Filmmaking- In Dylan Rothbein’s filmmaking class students will learn development to full distribution. We will discuss pre production, collaboration which will foster good communication in the competitive media industry. We will study film genre as a means of learning best practices within the creative medium of filmmaking. This class will help students learn executive function and organization. $150 an hour.
Audio Editing and Mixing- In Dylan Rothbein’s audio and mixing class students will learn mix theory, the technical aspects from workstations, the art of plug ins, to mixing, to the history of music production and the art of genre in audio production. $100 an hour.
Film Production Sound -In Dylan Rothbein’s production sound course, students will learn a vast array of techniques and this class will cover boom operation, adaptive audio replacement, the art of room tone. We will talk about foley, and the art of genre and microphone theory and placement, audio description for the blind. $150 an hour.
Cinematography- In Dylan Rothbein’s cinematography class we will teach the art of light and shadow, the art of genre, shot lists, storyboards, cameras, lighting, and equipment safety. $150 an hour.
Directing- In Dylan Rothbein’s directing class, students will learn the art of storytelling, film history, the art of genre, communications, best practices when working with actors, casting, leadership, and problem solving. $100 an hour.
Screen Writing- In Dylan Rothbein’s class, the student will learn how to write a full length film script, script formatting, the art of genre, film history, short film script writing, character development, plot development, film history, and writing a treatment. $100 an hour,
Videography- In Dylan Rothbein’s Videography class students will learn the art of digital media, video editing, the art of an interview, short form and long form interview formats, microphones, cameras, communication, script writing, the art of PSAs, and audio podcasting. We will discuss lighting and digital storytelling. $150 an hour.
Judaic Study
Torah Study- Students will learn weekly Torah portions, as a means of fostering community integration in the Jewish community and help the students grow as people. $100 an hour.
Chess-Learn a timeless strategy game to use in the community. $100 hour.
Course Accessibility: These classes are open to all. These courses are focused on providing full accessibility. Access needs will be addressed on an individual basis. Students are encouraged to contact instructor immediately if they need further assistance.
If in the event a student misses a live zoom class they can access a recording of the class for the same fee as the live zoom class.
Screenwriting: Margot Cole-I knew how to write characters but I was unfamiliar with how to make a shot list so I approached Dylan for guidance. Dylan was very clear and used her own script idea as an example of how to think about each shot which made things very easy to understand. Dylan was open to all my questions.
iMovie: Margot Cole- Dylan is one of the best video editors I have ever met. Dylan can make footage edits created in iMove look like a more advanced program such as Final Cut Pro. I got to learn about fades and color correction which is something I had wanted to learn for many years in iMovie. Dylan made advanced things in iMovie seem fast and easy.
Torah Study:Margot Cole-I got to learn about the Bible from a history perspective and saw the people of the Talmud and characters of The Torah as real whole human beings from Dylan’s teaching. Dylan was able to translate from Hebrew to English and back to explain the purpose behind Jewish laws. Dylan takes the Torah extremely seriously.
